I will start this off with a back story. When I was about 6 years old, I started having reoccurring nightmares involving my local swimming pool, killer whales, and dark blood filled water. I had them for years and they occasionally come back. To this day, my top fears are killer whales and deep, dark water. Fast forward to a few months ago. Michael (my boyfriend) and I were watching a lot of Don Bluth, whom we both loved as an animator. I grew up with Don Bluth classics such as Rock a Doodle, We're Back: A Dinosaurs Story, American Tail, and Land before Time (the first and only good one). He asked if he remembered correctly if Don Bluth had made a film called "The Pebble and the Penguin". I answered with "I believe so. I actually remember that movie now....vaguely.". So we went and found a trailer for it. Here is what we found:
Pause on 1:39. Yep. My heart sank. Memories started flooding back. I sat there, mouth agape, eyes watering up. Michael asked what was wrong with me. I said "Remember those nightmares I use to have as a kid?" He looked at the monitor and realized it. We found the movie and searched for that part to make sure that it WAS this movie that caused so much distress in my life. I watched the whole thing...that was it. I thought to myself, "How is it my most beloved animator caused me such mental duress?".
I haven't watched the movie in full yet. I think I may get to it eventually. The only other time than watching to see if it was the nightmare inducing movie I saw all those years ago is to edit that part out and upload to my account so you can see what I was talking about. Without further ado: the main cause for my fears in life.
Does that water look blood filled to you? Haha. I know it doesnt seem like much to you, but imagine your six year old self watching that. Im not scared of it at all anymore, it just surprised me to see what caused nightmares for years when I was young. I still love Don Bluth, just not this one film. Haha. So, go and enjoy some of his other films, as long as it doesnt plant a seed of fear in your head.
Cheers!
my favorite Don Bluth film is All Dogs Go to Heaven. :8)
ReplyDeleteThat whale still scares me...why doesn't it have soo many teeth?!
If you watch this movie in full, i will watch IT. IT is that scary movie that ruined clowns for me.
